ABOUT TREK4KIDZ
Started in 1997 by a small band of like-minded people from Tuross Head on the far south coast of NSW who decided to organize an event that would not only help change the lives of seriously ill children, but would provide a social event for people who share the drive and ambition for charity work & a keen interest in exploring the great Australian countryside and meeting the many characters our country boasts.
Trek4Kidz is an annual week-long event where a group explores different regional areas of the Australian countryside by car. Since its inception the trek has visited more than 300 towns, 35 schools and raised over $2 million for the Starlight Children’s Foundation. These funds would enable Starlight to grant nearly 200 life-changing wishes or transform the hospital experience for around 30,000 sick children at hospitals around Australia, including John Hunter Children’s Hospital. About Starlight Foundaiton
Since 1988, Starlight Children’s Foundation has been brightening the lives of seriously ill and hospitalised children, young people, and their families by delivering innovative programs that restore the laughter and joy that serious illness takes away.
Every minute of every day a child is admitted to hospital in Australia. Living with illness or injury can cause enormous strain in the lives of children and their families. The everyday joys of childhood often take a backseat to the stress of treatment and hospitalisation.
Starlight’s programs connect these children and their families with the magic of the Starlight world:
-
Captain Starlight – magical super heroes bringing unlimited entertainment, fun & laughter
-
Starlight Express Rooms, Starlight TV/Radio & Fun Centres – diversion and entertainment in all major paediatric hospitals throughout Australia.
-
Starlight Wishgranting – providing once-in-a-lifetime experiences for children
-
Livewire.org.au – a safe and supportive online community that helps young people aged 10 to 20 years, and their families, cope with the impact of a serious illness, chronic health condition or disability.
Starlight receives no government funding and relies solely on the dedication and generosity of organisations like Trek4Kidz to be able to spread so much happiness. We would be delighted if you could support this amazing event to help us brighten the lives of more seriously ill children, young people, and their families.
ABOUT CAR240
ABOUT OUR ENTRY
IAN AND SUE
Our entry, will be driven by Ian and navigated by Ian's (long suffering) wife Sue. The car is a 1987 Nissan Terrano, after retiring the zed and looking to enjoy a "little" more comfort over the long days of Trek. While Trek4Kidz is not a speed event, it will be covering some very challenging roads and a vast majority of the route is well off the main roads so all vehicles need to be well prepared and suitable for some interesting excursions “off the beaten track”.
As such, CAR240 is well prepared with all the needed safety and reliability features and offers a unique and noticeable vehicle that is highly visible wherever it goes.
THE ROUTE
Starting in Bathurst in central western NSW and heading out to Dubbo, Narrabri, Tamworth (where we have a layday), Tenterfield, Coffs Harbour and finish in Port Macquarie. The route covers a lot of "interesting" roads and towns and we are looking forward to sharing a few experiences along the way.
COSTS /SUPPORTERS
All entrants cover their own costs of vehicle, fuel, entry, accommodation, food etc. and then fundraise via various activities to raise as much as possible for the Starlight Foundation.
Even while we were off and not running during Covid, we still managed to donate a good sum to Starlight and, as we now get back to the 2024 run, we are hoping ton add even more for the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
Can you help?
See the donations page here for making a donation to support Starlight.
ABOUT CAR240
Our entry, crewed by Ian (driver) and Sue (navigator) English, is a 1987 Nissan Terrano, . While Trek4Kidz is not a speed event, it will be covering some very challenging roads and a vast majority of the route is well off the main routes so all vehicles need to be well prepared and suitable for some interesting excursions “off the beaten track”. As such, car 240 is prepared with all the needed safety and reliability features and offers a unique and noticeable vehicle that is highly visible wherever it goes.
CAR240 is fitted with a half cage for safety, all needed navigation equipment, carries 2 spare tyres at all times, along with a limited space for our essentials.
Having run our highly regarded Datsun 240Z for a number of years, the desire to enjoy a little more comfort (and space - enough for the car fridge/wine cooler!!) led to retiring the zed and commissioning the Terrano.
The Terrano was previously a Victorian chase/crew vehicle for a Victorian rally team and has been rebuilt over the last few years, fully engineered for NSW and is sporting the TRK240 number plates to respect the efforts of the Zed over the years.
DONATE
Our entry into Trek4Kidz can’t work without the combined support of family, friends and sponsors. By coming on board as a sponsor, you not only support the Starlight Foundation, but also ensure the ongoing delivery of services by them.
Sponsors can be recognised in a number of ways, including signage on the Zed, on this website along with things like inclusion in your company newsletter and even on site activities with the Zed at your business. We will happily discuss any options that you see will work for you.
So, drop an email to us here or go to the online donations page and select Car240 and make a donation via the page.
All entrants cover their own costs of vehicle, fuel, entry, accommodation, food etc. and then fundraise via various activities to raise as much as possible for the Starlight Foundation.
Through a range of sponsors and other donations, we are aiming to raise as much as we can to be passed 100% on to the Starlight Foundation.`
Can you help just like these great sponsors?
